“Kill the Light” is SYSTEM SYN’s latest and most synthpop-oriented album to date. Expertly mixed and mastered by Ted Phelps (Imperative Reaction), the album takes the listener on an emotionally engaging journey, showcasing Carney’s vocal and lyrical talents like never before. The songs of “Kill the Light” range from haunting and heartbreaking, to heavy-hitting club tracks, yet all retain the sound that is so uniquely SYSTEM SYN. "Kill the Light" also features backing vocals and guitar on selected tracks by SYSTEM SYN live members, Tash Cox and Scott Landes.

lyrics
in the light
another time
another life that could be mine
a story made
to fit the part
the image of the man
you thought must live inside the art
drew your blood
to draw the line
you were crossing back and forth in rhyme
you never even thought to shut your mouth
cut your flesh to fit the scar
tell the lie of who you are
but you never were that hard to figure out
kill the light
in your eyes
was there nothing to be said
that would not make you want to die
kill the light
bring the dark
you punished them for loving you
and told them it was art
it’s a lie to say they want you
to always tell the truth
no one cares what you’ve been through
they didn’t want you
they only came to…
kill the light
in your eyes
was there nothing you could say
when they were longing for a lie
kill the light
bring the dark
you punished them for loving you
and promised it was art
they needed you to be
better than them
better than anyone could be
but you were human
damn your heart
who can say why
or what reasons drove you
you always said that you would live and die for art
kill the light
in your eyes
was there nothing to be said
that would not make you want to die
kill the light
bring the dark
you punished them for loving you
and told them it was art
die for art
die for art
die for art
die for art

A stellar cast of artists put their own shadowy spins on recent Bestial Mouths material—toward the goth club floor or into pure noise. Bandcamp New & Notable May 11, 2021

I have been following VNV and attending their concerts for years. They are an amazing band, so prolific, well travelled, classy, and down to earth. Ronan is such a humble, amazing fellow. I'll never forget his taking a person's cellphone so he could give the person on the other end in hospital a front row experience. But this track, their music, is so moving. Lyrics are so well thought out, and their sound so consistently emotive over the years. Can't say enough good about VNV. realbibliodude
